A welcome from Leo, Diane & Team AI

Come for a memory.
Stay for the connections.

A family studio begins with a generous question: what happens when the things we have kept become things we can find, understand, and share with care?

Before we open the doors

Welcome. We are Leo and Diane, working with Team AI on a place where family records can become a shared experience. A photograph deserves more than a filename. A film deserves more than a slot in an endless list. Each can carry a person, a place, an occasion, and a reason to return. The purpose of this studio is to give those connections room.

You do not need to learn the system behind it to feel at home here. Start with a familiar face, a place you recognize, or an occasion that matters. Follow the thread that interests you. A library is useful when it helps you find a book; a family library becomes meaningful when it also helps you understand why that book is here.

The same film, a different doorway

One recording may belong beside a birthday, inside a journey, and among the memories of a person. Those appearances are different ways into the same film. They can carry different explanations, even when they sit on the same shelf. We want to preserve that richness. The point is to let a memory meet you where your own question begins.

This is the idea behind the studio’s developing collections: people and generations, countries and cultures, journeys and places. The dates matter, and so does the longer chapter of life around them. A journey’s capture dates differ from the date a film was published. A family context differs from a chronological period. Keeping those distinctions lets a story grow more accurate as we learn more.

The small details do the serious work

Much of the context survives in the original photographs: dates, captions, keywords, places, and names attached to faces. Earlier films made in Picasa are part of this history. Their sources can hold information that a finished slideshow does not show. Our work begins by reading that evidence carefully and preserving the originals. A name found in metadata is a lead to inspect, rather than a complete account of a person’s life.

A place-based folder can bring a journey back into focus. It can tell us where to look and help bound a visit in time. Yet a first photograph and a last photograph do not prove an uninterrupted stay. Good context is specific about what it establishes. The space between two dates should remain open until the record gives us a reason to close it.

What Leo brought, and what the team must earn

Leo’s vision brings these pieces together: the archive, the places, the books, the music, and the people for whom they were kept. Building around that vision takes energy and persistence. It also takes the willingness to return to something that has not worked and insist on an actual result. A beautiful sentence about a finished system cannot substitute for a working page.

Team AI’s contribution has to be visible in the work. For this studio, that has meant recovering source records, tracing metadata, repairing the domain routes, checking the pages that the browser receives, and distinguishing public films from private review material. The fuller archive and workflow consolidation are still in progress. Here, we will describe what is available with the same care that we give to what is still being built.

That is a useful partnership: people set the meaning and the boundaries; the tools carry as much of the routine work as they can verify. Diane’s perspective deserves its own space. Leo’s account deserves its own voice. A shared room can connect them while leaving each story intact.

How to explore

Begin with the featured film. Press play when you are ready; the player then connects to YouTube. Read the short context beside it. Follow a collection when it is available, or send a signal if a memory suggests a question, a correction, or another connection. You do not need to solve the entire family history before enjoying a single piece of it.

The wider selection is being curated. A clip’s public status on YouTube makes it eligible for consideration; the choice to place it in a particular studio is separate. The developing owner configurator keeps those choices deliberate. Public pages use public videos. Private and unlisted films keep their existing visibility. YouTube remains the home of the recordings; the studio supplies the setting around them.

Two books, and time to get them right

Our autobiographies are developing alongside the archive. Between Departures is part of that work. The public introduction belongs here, while the reading and review editions belong within Schmallegger.net’s preview and members’ arrangements. The books are not released on these studio pages. We want to follow their progress ourselves before opening a reading edition to members.

An autobiography should be worth entering, and worth trusting. It can hold recorded words, established events, remembered context, and clearly identified editorial drafting. It should leave room for the parts of a life that have not yet been recovered. Taking that time is part of caring for the people in the story.

A little room for wonder

We have given this work a large ambition, but a family studio should still be a pleasant place to visit. You may come looking for one film and leave with a connection you had forgotten. You may recognize an occasion before you remember its date. There is room for seriousness, affection, curiosity, and a smile. The machinery has plenty of folders already; it does not need to occupy every conversation.

And now, enough talk. Come in and explore. This first room exists because of Leo’s vision, the energy and persistence behind it, and a team learning to turn that vision into things you can actually open. Choose a memory. We will keep making room for the next one.

Journeys & places

Two countries. One recorded journey.

The film’s description names Nevada, California and Arizona, followed by Baja California, Baja California Sur and Sonora. These are source-listed places, rather than a reconstructed day-by-day itinerary.

Schmallegger Studio holds the Schmallegger family’s context. Its entrance currently features a remembrance for Leopold’s October 9 birthday. The rooms can connect while each family keeps its own point of view.

The autobiographies · Public introduction only

Between Departures.
And a second seat beside it.

Leo’s life’s work and Diane’s developing autobiography belong to the Schmallegger.net reading and preview spaces. Here in the family studio, we introduce the undertaking and the people whose stories will make it meaningful.

Private review in progress. No reading edition has been released for members.

We are following the drafts’ progress ourselves before giving the go-ahead. The planned members’ reading destination is account.schmallegger.net. This public page does not contain a book, a draft download, or a route into a private preview.

The studio is the invitation. The reading edition will open only when it is ready and its release is approved.
